Use Problem Steps Recorder (PSR) as Screenshot Tool

screen Problem Steps Recorder-PSR which was introduced in Windows 7 is very useful tool for recording the problem and sending it a problem solver or tech supports. If you don't know what is PSR then you can see my previous post about it, Problem Steps Recorder Overview .

Few days ago I realised that PSR can also be used as Screenshot Tool to take screenshot at every click automatically! The best part of this is that it is free and takes screenshots automatically at every click of mouse. In this how-to, I have used  PSR screenshots to complete the tutorial.

> First of all to take the screenshots, fire up PSR recorder by simply typing “ psr “ into start search box and hitting ENTER.
> Now record the the steps of your Presentation/Tutorial.
> Stop recording and save the file as .zip to a know location.
> Then go to the saved “ .zip “ file and extract it, you will get “ .mht “ file. If you will open the .mht file it will open in Internet Explorer and will show the recorded steps with screenshots of each step.
> Now the real thing is here if you will extract .mht file then you will get screenshots and then further edit it to get desired result. So, how to extract .mht file ?
> In order to extract .mht file you can use a free program called “ uniextract “ and you can download it from here : http://legroom.net/ . Install the extracted file and after this you will be able to see an option in context menu of “ UniExtract to SubDir “.
> Right click on .mht file and select “ UniExtract to SubDir “. Subsequent Screenshots are shown below :

> New folder containing screenshots and other files will be created, open the containing folder.

> After above steps you will get the required screenshot files named as “ screenshot_0001 “ and so on…
Finally you are done, you know why I am preferring this method because you don't need any further editing of screenshots, they are already compressed and ready to upload. Further you can edit this .mht in Microsoft word and upload it directly to your site. The big reason to use it as it is FREE.
